A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive

Average rating: Stars
Stars An unforgettable book
A Child Called It has gotten to be quite well-known since it was written, and rightly so. I think it is almost impossible not to be emotionally affected when reading this book. It is often difficult to read, but it's so gripping that it is hard to put down. I read it when I was 12, and like many others have said, I cried, and I am normally not a weepy person. The ways in which Dave was abused were so sickeningly creative and horrendous that I was always on the edge of my seat waiting to see how he would make it through. This book and the rest of his books are proof that not only did he make it, he went on to do something with his life and rose above his terrible childhood.
A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive - Dave Pelzer
Stars A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive
It is not very plausible that David Pelzer would be able to remember from the time he was 4 but i can understand how he could also. These traumatic events the mother displayed; that David had to live through, I highly doubt anybody would forget it. I can vividly remember when I was around 4 or 5 when my parents were tired and I was being a kid and throwing tantrums. They told me to pick up the toys i was playing with and I got mad, so I kicked them to the toy box and I got slapped for being disrespectful :x I was crying hysterically with major hiccups. Now, it was my aunt's house, yet i could remember the hallway I stumbled crying. I haven't been in that house in about 8 years. ~~. Sorry I spilled my life story, lmao. Anyways, the people who are giving this book a thumbs down, stop judging the opinion of others. You say it's highly impossible that David could survive the stuff he put up with BUT it's the fact that he DID that makes the book so inspirational to them. -.-.
I admit I cried at parts of the book. I nearly gaged when he had to eat his own vomit of hotdogs. *gags* Also, you wonder why he didn't do anything? Why the teachers didn't do anything? HELLO IT'S THE 1970'S!!! Child Abuse was not very famous. David grew up to this kind of behavior so how would he know that this was wrong; that he had another choice in this? I was outraged at first when I read that he has been coming to this nurse for a year and he admit his mother hit him, yet she didn't do anything untill another cruel year passed; where David had to be hit again and again. There is like a tug-of-war in my head over this book.
You also wonder why the mother treated the other kids like kings? I believe it is another plot to make David even more miserable. To make him feel like a misfit in his own household. She wanted to make him feel unuseful; that he was not worthy of his brothers. Okay I'm going to stop cause I'm tired and I have to do a report.

P.S.- If I spelled anything wrong or wrote in bad grammer, I'm sorry. I'm kinda sleepy :x

Stars Realising How Much I Have
David Pelzer's book touched me.
Im in my mid teenage years and I wouldn't expect that there is so much pain, fear and agony people my age and younger experience every day.
I held on to his book(My Story containing all three books)day and night, literally.
During class at school, while eating, and untill the early morning hours.
His books speak about the fear of living with a person who doesnt love you, underestimates you, beats you up in the most cruel ways and makes you feel like an "It".
I must admit I can't remember the times I cried while reading his story.
He made me realise how lucky I am, and how some children grow up on their own, becoming survivors and victims of mentally disturbed parents, and of course how some children don't make it.
If there was such a thing as 10 stars, these books would undoubtebly give them.
I recomend this book to everyone who grew up really loved because we really dont know how lucky we are and also to those who are "survivors",who experience the same things, they'll realise their not alone and they can help themselves, to those who have real feelings and lastly to anyone who believes that not having the newest trend is the end of the world, they'll realise how wrong they are.
Hope I've helped..
