Could be better! |
| I should first admit that I have only read the first 1/4 of the book. My first problem with the book is that it uses symbols for resistors, that look like two s's, but nowhere provides a key for this symbol. I turned to the internet and was still unsuccessful in finding a definition of the symbol. I think that book is mediocre in its exposition. I found websites that explained the basic topics better. Overall, I don't know if I can recommend the book. |

Detailed but not easy |
| This is a very detailed book with many diagrams, pictures, and explanations of systems. However, sometimes the book relies on the reader to know many of the terms. When you begin through the book it's like highschool chemistry all over again. To me it was like I was going through second semester Chemistry. Luckily later on, the book eases up a bit as you learn how electrons work along with many conceptual physics ideas that aren't too hard. There are many tests which will determine your knowledge that you have obtained through the text (all with answers), there is also a final exam as you close into the ending of the book. Maybe later on there will be a better edition to be created with more explanations and an easier and comfortable flow of words. For now this is a good introduction into the world of electricity and electronics. |

Typical TAB-G/L botch job |
Generally books on the TAB imprint-the heir to the old Gernsback Library-are poorly edited, poorly written, and often irrelevant and lacking useful information. There are a few exceptions, as they had a few fairly good authors who for whatever reason wrote for them who combined technical knowledge and writing discipline. Most found greener pastures elsewhere, as TAB predictably paid very poorly.
This is no exception. If you want a reference manual there are dozens of better ones. I seriously doubt there are any worse. |
